The metropolitan area of Barcelona has a network of waste treatment infrastructures that allows maximising the possibilities of recycling, recovery and use of municipal waste and, thus, reducing its non-reusable fraction.

The AMB pursues a rational and uniform distribution of waste treatment facilities throughout the area, so as to reduce waste transport flows and also to minimise the environmental impact of treatment through savings of fuel and other resources.
