The metropolitan area of Barcelona is a privileged place and this is how many of the inhabitants of any of its 36 municipalities feel it, in particular, most of the 20 million people who visited last year, for leisure or business, Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

The metropolitan area is also a unique setting: a place full of history, a crossing place, and thus a location with strong tradition of cultural and trade exchange.

It is a strategic territory: in front of the sea, facing the sun, with over 30 km of beaches, over 2,600 hours of sunshine per year and more than 25,000 hectares of natural areas with three mountain ranges with features typical from the Mediterranean landscape, such as Collserola, Garraf massif and Marina mountain range, and 34 urban parks full of services.

It is a unique place, reference of the western Mediterranean for research and innovation, with some of the most important new technologies or biomedical centres from southern Europe.
